Should I be a total dick to my friends and only use pay as you go cell phone service?

What would be your reaction if one of your friends told you not to call him or send him any texts unless it's a dire emergency? Instead of spending $50 a month, he'll be paying 10 cents a minute and you can still chat and talk online. Reason for switching: upping savings efficiency level.
